The Peddie School Invitational Tournament has become a Mercer County Basketball mainstay as it entered its 46th occurrence on Friday, December 7th.
As always eight teams took to the newly installed hardwood floor of the Erik B.Hanson Fieldhouse this year, three of which from the MAPL (Peddie, The Hun School & The Lawrenceville School), three from Pennsylvania (Solebury School, Kiski School & The Phelps School), one hailing from Bronx, New York (Our Saviour Lutheran School), and newcomers from Lake Forest, Illinois (Lake Forest Academy).
Competition was fierce from the first tip-off. MAPL related highlights included:
The Championship game was set between Phelps School and Peddie on Sunday afternoon. Peddie trailed 26-21 after the first quarter and despite bursts throughout the game went cold in the fourth quarter. The Falcons went 3 for 18 in the final eight minutes and struggled to contain Phelps' Ronnie Ellis (Tournament MVP) who netted 26 total points. Phelps School walked off the floor with a 67-61 victory over their hosts.
