U.S. Squash has invited Brittany Sun ’19 to play at the British Junior Open squash championship tournament, one of the most prestigious events of the year for junior squash. The tournament, held in Birmingham, England, from December 30 to January 6, selects five top female players and five top male players in each country from each age group: U19, U17, U15, U13, and U11. According to the British Junior Open website, this year’s event will be “one of the biggest in the championship’s history,” with over 600 competitors representing over 30 nations.

Sun, who is highly ranked for the girls U19 category, started playing squash at the age of 10. Though Sun started as a tennis player, Sun’s family friend introduced her to squash, and she found that she “really loved it.” Sun currently plays on the Lawrenceville Varsity Squash team.

“The main reason I love playing squash at Lawrenceville is because of the team and how close and supportive we are of each other. They’ve taught me to be more open minded,” Sun said.

Although she often has to miss many classes, particularly on the weekends for tournaments, she is grateful that her teachers are understanding of her busy traveling schedule.

Although she has played in competitive U.S. tournaments since the beginning of her career, she has never been invited to play on the international stage. “I have always dreamt of going to the British Junior Open. It has always been one of my goals,” Sun said, “I’m definitely honored to be selected for the British Junior Open, and I’m really excited to meet a bunch of other amazing people and players.”
