HUN’S ENYA MAGUIRE '20 SIGNS NLI FOR HOUSTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY

Apr 24 2020

Not even a pandemic can stop this hard working student-athlete, The Hun School’s Enya Maguire ’20, from having her moment. On Wednesday, April 15th, Enya signed an NCAA  National Letter of Intent to play women’s basketball at Houston Baptist University.

Signing days at The Hun School usually revolve around student-athletes gathering with their families and friends in Russell Hall. Students and faculty arrive early to celebrate one another as seniors commit to collegiate athletic programs on the NCAAs designated day.

This year, Jon Stone, NCAA liaison and director of resident life, arranged a virtual signing for Enya, who when not living on campus, resides with her family in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

“The virtual signing was great and it was so lovely to see my teachers supporting me,” Enya said. “Having that official picture was important to me, so me and my family took pictures to remember the day just like we would have if we were on campus.”

Enya and her family put on their HBU apparel, set a self-timer, and gathered around for a picture to capture this memorable moment for their family.

“I’m glad that although this wasn’t the usual signing day, we were still able to make it special,” she said. “My coach at HBU wanted all of the incoming freshmen to sign on the same day so that the program could announce us coming in.”

In the fall, Enya will be heading to Houston to continue her basketball career and she’s not alone -- her sister is also on the team.

“On my official visit I loved the atmosphere of the school and I liked the style of how the team played in the game I got to see,” she said. “I’m so excited to start in the fall but I’m most excited to get the opportunity to play with my older sister.”
